The girls competed in their second figure skating competition on Saturday in Willmar. Kelsey was third place in Compulsory, 4th place in Freeskate, and 3rd place in Interpretive. Courtney was third place in Compulsory, fifth place in freeskate, and 2nd place in interpretive. Mom and dad came to watch them skate as well-it was a fun day!!

I have been a terrible blogger lately.....we are busy with figure skating, concerts, programs and getting ready for Christmas. We hope all of you are having a wonderful holiday season. Our dear pet Skittles passed away on Sunday evening. We think he had been sick for awhile because he wasn't acting like himself, but didn't expect him to pass away. We should have taken him to the vet, but didn't know that he was so ill. He was a great cat and will be missed a great deal.

I have not been a very good blogger recently...sorry! Eric and I are both back at work getting ready for school to start! It has been a wonderful experience for her:)

We returned home from our trip to Denver just in time for Courtney's softball game. She is playing on the JO 12 and under team for Sisseton in the Watertown league. So she plays 2 games every Monday night! It was fun to watch her play and brought back some memories for me playing softball when I was younger......The second game she played against her ice skating friend Tegan. Here are two photos of them! We are spending the weekend rearranging bedrooms and painting/prepping for the baby's arrival. Hard to believe she will be here in a month or so......

It was nice that mom and dad came to spend time with the girls this past week, while Eric and I finished up our last week of school. We had our annual WFSC banquet last Sunday and Courtney was voted by the coaches as "Jr. Figure Skater of the Year." We are so proud of her and Kelsey's accomplishments this year....Kelsey was crowned the Central MN Series Champion in Compulsory in Basic 2 and Courtney was crowned Compulsory Champion in Basic 7.

May Baskets/Wizard of Oz

The girls had a great time making and delivering May baskets last weekend! This week they were busy with practice for Missoula Children's Theatre production of "The Wizard of Oz." Try-outs were held Monday with 114 kids auditioning for 60 parts. Kelsey was an evil wild flower and Courtney was a Winkie (flying monkey). They peformed twice on Friday and so were quite tired last night! Tonight is Prom at TZ-they have a beautiful day for it!!

Eric and I took a vacation with our friends, the Nielsen's to Vegas Easter Monday-Thursday. We had a great time! Kari and I shopped at Ross' (thank you Laurie for the tip), rode the bus to the Outlet Mall and had a good time. The guys played golf and gambled. We saw two shows-Frank Caliendo and The Jersey Boys. It was a short vacation, but very fun!

Hi Everyone!

I have been a poor blogger lately, I apologize for that! We are getting ready to host the Smith Family Easter celebration at our house tomorrow. It is also Sarah's birthday, so we are looking forward to a wonderful day. The girls have been busy dying Easter eggs and making the traditional Bunny cake. Mom and dad are here and have been very helpful with getting everything ready. Eric and I are leaving for Vegas with our friends on Monday-----it will be nice to get away to some warmer temperatures.

I travelled to Sioux Falls yesterday for what I believed to be a girls weekend with some of my dear friends from high school. I met Debbie, Jeni, and Rachel at the mall and went shopping for a little while. When we arrived at the hotel-I was happily surprised to see my sister-in-law Deb, friend Kristi, and best friend Rowe who had planned the entire party:) My dad brought mom over for the occasion as well, which was really nice. We had a really fun weekend in Alexandria. The girls competed in the Battle of the Blades and did a great job:) It was fun to have grandma, grandpa, Ann, Warren, Andrew, Sarah, Dan and Laurie watch them skate. Kelsey earned two first place, two second place and one third place trophy. Courtney earned one first place, two second place, and three fifth place trophies. There were many skaters and it was a fun day! The Watertown club won the travelling trophy given to the team with the most participants. This is the second year we have won this honor.

Winners:)

We are so proud of the girls and their skating accomplishments this year! Kelsey earned three first place honors and the All Around award at the Basic 2 level on Saturday. Courtney earned one first place, two second place and the All Around award at the Basic 7 level! On Sunday, we rode the charter bus with the club to "Stars on Ice," where we watched Evan Lysachek, Sasha Cohen, and other famous skaters perform. Kristi Yamaguchi and Scott Hamilton were there as well! It was a fun time......on Friday we head to Alexandria for the Battle of the Blades competition:) The girls will get to perform in front of Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Laurie, Uncle Dan, Uncle Warren, Auntie Ann, Sarah and Andrew-should be fun!!

We drove to Watertown today and picked up our new car. Courtney participated with a synchro. skating group for the opening ceremony of the State Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament this morning and then we went to get our 2011 Chevrolet 2LT Traverse. We traded in our Avalanche and were able to use Tim's discount to save us some money:) I took some photos earlier, but for some reason they didn't save to my camera. So, this picture is a little dark-I'll take more tomorrow:)

Click on this link for more information......we drove to Watertown for ice skating yesterday and were able to safely make it home (although the last 20 miles were pretty scary). Over 150 cars were stranded on the interstate due to ground blizzard conditions. We have not had school all week and neither have the girls-what an ugly winter!!

We had a nice day with my mom in Sioux Falls. Tim, Deb, Tyler, and Chelsea ate lunch with mom, dad, myself, and the girls at Minerva's. Then, we enjoyed Angel Food cake with ice cream at Tim and Deb's house for dessert. The girls enjoyed dancing with Auntie Debbie to her Wii 'Just Dance Two' game. Have a good weekend everyone!!

The girls competed in the Granite City Classic figure skating competition in St. Cloud on Saturday. Courtney took second place in Freesktate, third place in Compulsory, and third place in Interpretive. Kelsey took first place in Compulsory, second place in Freeskate, and beat her sister by winning first place in Interpretive! We had a fun day. The temperature hit -24 on our way home, so we were happy to get home safely. Now, we are just relaxing and watching the snow blow in our backyard! Eric leaves Wednesday for a basketball tournament in Huron. He will be gone until Saturday. The girls and I are planning on driving to Sioux Falls on Saturday to help mom celebrate her birthday. Hope the weather cooperates:)

This weekend we travelled to Willmar for a figure skating competition. It was the first time for Courtney to compete at the Basic 5 level. She earned first place in Compulsories, FreeSkate, and Interpretive!! Kelsey earned fourth place in Compulsories, 2nd place in FreeSkate, and 2nd place in Interpretive. My friend Rachel drove up from Wabasso to watch the girls skate:) It was good to see her and catch up. It was a very fun competition:) Next weekend we will be travelling to St. Cloud. Have a good weekend everyone!!

We made it to Mankato last night even though the roads were awful. It took us 5.5 hours to get there and we were all very grateful to arrive safely! Courtney competed in two events and placed first in Compulsories and third in FreeSkate. Kelsey competed only in FreeSkate as her Compulsory event was cancelled. She placed third in her division. Mom and dad drove up to watch the girls and then we had a nice lunch with them after the girls were done skating. Next week we travel to Willmar---stay warm everyone:)

The girls decided to set up a spa in the dining room-complete with makeup, facials, pedicures, manicures, and massages. I decided to go for the pedicure and massage-it only cost me $1250 in Monopoly money!! Anyway, they had a good time!! The neighbor came over and plowed our driveway, so Eric is on his way to take Jalen home and pick up a friend for Kelsey to play with! The wind is still blowing....

We spent a very quiet New Year's Eve in our living room watching TV last night. Courtney's friend, Jalen has been with us since Thursday---as we are not able to get her home-yet! It has been snowing and blowing constantly as you can see from the size of some of our drifts! Hopefully, it will calm down a little bit today and we will be able to dig out! Another Christmas has come and gone------we travelled to Jackson on the 23rd to spend Christmas with mom and dad. We had a nice time together. On the 26th we celebrated the Smith family Christmas in Shakopee. Today, we drove from Shakopee to Watertown (thanks for the great directions, Jimmer)! Courtney took her figure skating test today and she passed! She is now in Basic 6. We hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a Blessed 2011. We'd like to mention two special people who passed away this week. My Uncle Cueball, who was a kind, gentle person and Dan Steinkamp, who was like a father to Eric. They will be missed dearly by all who knew them. Please keep their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Blades of Hope for Christmas

The girls had their skating expo today entitled, "Blades of Hope for Christmas." The figure skating club hosted a free will donation that will go to a family affected by breast cancer. The girls both performed solo Christmas routines. They refused or should I say-one sister failed to cooperate with the other one to perform a routine together. Courtney chose, "All I Want for Christmas, " by Mariah Carey. Kelsey's choice was, "Last Christmas." They both did a great job. I didn't get any photos on the ice, because I was videotaping-but I did take some pictures of them in the club room before the performance. Tomorrow is their Christmas program at church......it has been a busy weekend!

I have not been a very good blogger lately........it has been a long week. On Monday, I stayed home from school with Kelsey. She was running a temp., I took her to the clinic and the doctor gave her a shot for tonsillitis. On Tuesday, I received a call from school that Courtney was sick, a trip to the clinic and she had fluid in her lungs and tonsillitis. On Wednesday, Kelsey had surgery-tubes put in her ears. Today, we woke to a foot of snow........Eric and I had a snow day and the girls were 2 hours late. Saturday is our skating Expo in Watertown and Sunday is the Christmas program at church.

I wanted to get a picture of their new skating jackets that Grandpa and Grandma Smith bought them for Christmas------they are very nice!

The Birthday Cake

Eric surprised me on Friday night with a birthday party! He took me out that evening saying we were going to go out for supper. We drove around for awhile, when he said that we had to go back home because he forgot his wallet. When we got back, there were five other cars in the driveway-----so I knew something was going on! It was a really nice evening spent with friends, everyone brought something so it was like a big potluck:) What a guy........

The girls were dismissed early on Friday due to the snow we received (7+ inches)-they made the most of it and went sledding:) Mom and dad are coming up tomorrow to attend Kelsey and Courtney's school music concerts. We are looking forward to their visit.

Fun Turkey Treats....

As mentioned in my prior post....here are photos of the turkey treats that we made. I baked 4 dozen chocolate cupcakes, and frosted them. Then, we used 5-8 candy corn and stuck those in a double stuf oreo for the feathers (we had to use less because we were running out). Then, we decorated the turkey face (a nutter butter cookie) with icing. I think they turned out really cute! The girls are looking forward to taking the treats to school:)

We are spending a quiet afternoon at home. Courtney is at a friend's house, Kelsey and Eric are putting up the Christmas tree! I baked some cupcakes and we are going to decorate them to look like turkeys:) I will post a finished picture when we are done! The roads are pretty icy...we did make to church, but that's it for today. Have a good week everyone!!

Kelsey made a project at school displaying the order of the planets in the solar system. I was surprised that she is learning this in 2nd grade. I remember studying the planets in 4th grade with Miss Grieger! Kelsey is very proud of her project and wants to hang it up on one of our walls:)

Figure Skating...

Yes, figure skating season has begun in the Heath household---from October to March we travel I-29 to Watertown on Saturdays for the girls to take lessons. Kelsey passed into Basic 3 last week and Courtney is in Basic 5. Their first competition is December 12th in St. Cloud, then they will compete January 15th in Willmar, February ?? in Wahpeton, North Dakota, March 12th in Watertown and March 19th in Alexandria. So....mark your calendars and come watch them skate:) Last night the girls had Kylie and Jalen spend the night----so after lessons, we took all of the girls to Open Skate. They stayed on the ice for almost 2 hours...it was fun to watch them! Have a good weekend:)
